Friends of Groves Public Library

Meetings are the third Tuesday of each month

Friends of Groves Public Library are sponsoring "Showers of Savings" book sale beginning Wednesday, April 23, in the activity room at the library, 5600 West Washington. Wednesday's sale, 8:30 am to 6 pm, is open to Friends members only, with membership available at the door.

The sale will be open to the public Thursday through Saturday, during regular library hours: Thursday, 8:30 to 6;Friday, 8:30 to 5; Saturday, 11 am to 3 pm. On sale are paperback and hardback works of fiction and non-fiction, as well as videos, magazines and audio books. Many of the items have been donated, while others have been deselected from the library's collection to make room for other material.

Proceeds from the sale benefit the library. Past purchases from the organization have included a patron cart, computers in the teen section, shelving and special memorial books.  In addition to raising money, members routinely assist the library in a variety of ways, including processing, decorating, crafts and story hour for little ones, and assisting at the front desk. The Friends also act as volunteers for the program.

The Friends of Groves Public Library meet monthly at the library to discuss ideas and activities to help the library acquire needed equipment, furnishings, books and supplies. They are a non-profit group. Their main source of income is derived from library book sales.

Friends Dues are $5.00 per individual per year, and $10.00 per family per year. Volunteer opportunities are many. For a list of duties available, contact the library director. Dues are tax deductible.

The current Friends of Groves Public Library group was revitalized in the last couple of years. For more information on joining the group, you can visit the library at 5600 West Washington Street to pick up an application or click here to email the library director with your name and address information and someone will contact you. You can also receive information by calling the library at 409/962-6281.

The Friends of Groves Public Library sponsor book sales throughout the year as volunteer workers are available. However, they maintain a book sale room at the library year around and welcome browsers. In the book saleroom, books may be purchased for as little as 25 cents. All proceeds go back into the library so that the library may provide better service to the Groves community.
