Groves Public Library Long Range Plan
| 12/11/2007 | |
Where the Library began:
Where our library is now: Groves Public Library was begun in 1935 by the Groves Community League. In 1964, it was moved to its present location and a more modern building was completed. The building was enlarged to its present size in 1986. In 2004, a new roof and carpeting was added. Presently the library stands at 10,000 plus feet which includes a sizeable meeting room.
Where the Library is right now:
The director and staff are taking a fresh look at what is being allowed onto the shelves to prevent overcrowding and wasting precious shelf space with titles that do not circulate. The community has responded well to this and comment that they are better able to locate relevant materials. We will continually strive to not only maintain a sizeable, varied collection, but also a collection that is relative to the needs and interests of our patrons. Our strength lies in the fact that the library is very valuable to the citizens of Groves. It is also supported by the city administration. It has a supportive and consistent Friends group. The staff is knowledgeable and dedicated to good patron service.
Where the Library is headed:
There is much opportunity to improve community outreach among civic organizations, city administration, library peer groups, schools, businesses and the Friends. By regularly assessing our services and materials, and continually updating and maintaining our facility, the library will continue to be the source of community pride. The goals below reflect our outlook for the next five years.
Our Goals | |
I All patrons will have access to current and popular materials and engaging programs that stimulate their thinking, satisfy their curiosities, expand their knowledge of contemporary culture and society, and make their leisure time more productive and enjoyable. II We will instill lifelong reading and aid independent learning among those we serve. III We will improve communication and cooperation between the library and various entities, officials, patrons, and Friends members. IV We will update our facility inside so that we can operate and serve the public efficiently and in a more timely manner. We will enhance the appearance and functionality of the library facility. We plan to do this by improved staff/patron areas, better lighting, installing a curbside book return, purchasing new adult reading furniture and improving our handicap accessibility.
