GPL is proud to have received the J.Frank Dobie Award. We were one of the four libraries in the state of Texas to receive this award. The amount was $10,000. and we will be spending it on juvenile materials.

This program is a division of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission and a member of the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, Library of Congress. Books are available in recorded cassettes, large print and Braille. Cassette players are loaned to readers.

Our History:
Our library began its service to the citizens of Groves when the library opened to the public on May 3, 1935. The present library building was completed on March 12, 1964.
Our Collection:
Our current materials collection consists more than 32,000 titles. We also furnish our registered patrons access to Texshare databases. and participate in the Interlibrary Loan Program.
Accreditation:
We are accredited by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission and belong to the Houston Area Library System.
Free and Equitable Service / Library of Texas and Free Databases:
Groves Public Library will endeavor to give equitable service to all patrons regardless of age, race, religion, national origin, social or political views, economic status, or any other characteristic. We do not charge a fee to check out from our library. To see what information is needed to get a library card, click on Policies.
Current Topics and Titles:
Groves Public Library operates primarily as a Current Topics and Titles library We endeavor to fulfill community residents' appetite for information about popular cultural and social trends and their desire for satisfying recreational experiences.. We feature current, high-demand, high interest materials in a variety of formats for persons of all ages. We promote and encourage the use of our collection.
Internet Access and Children's Programming
We offer computer workstations for public use with Roadrunner high speed Internet access, a Summer Reading Program for area children and Bookworms Early Literacy Program for Pre-Schoolers ages 3 to 5.
Our Mission Statement:
To become a dynamic library for a thriving community, to encourage growth, knowledge and wisdom, to establish, improve, and enhance the love of reading.
Our Long Term Goals:
Goal 1: All patrons will have access to current and popular materials and engaging programs that stimulate their thinking, satisfy their curiosities, expand their knowledge of contemporary culture and society, and make their leisure time more productive and enjoyable.
Goal 2: We will instill lifelong reading and aid independent learning among those we serve.
Goal 3: We will improve communication and cooperation between the library and various entities, officials, patrons, and Friends members.
Goal 4: We will enhance the appearance and functionality of the library facility.
